Speech privacyConfidential privacySpeech privacy at the highest level Within Speech Privacy various levels of acoustic privacy are to be found. The highest level is Confidential Privacy, followed by Normal, Transitional and Poor Privacy. Together with a good acoustic design STI Sound can reach the two highest levels using soundmasking. With Confidential Privacy a person cannot hear discussions, or speak with people, outside of the room: they are acoustically isolated. And conversely, the people outside of the room cannot hear the discussions inside or talk to the people inside. Confidential or sensitive discussions are now possible. The people in the room aren’t distracted. Good to see in a closed office environment. Normal PrivacyWe ensure it’s difficult to overhear With this it’s difficult to overhear conversations or conduct conversations with people outside of the room you are in. You are aware of the sound activities of others yet are not distracted by them. This level can be reached in an open office environment. Complaints are kept to a minimum. TransitionalPrivacy for staff, difficult to find A person is able to conduct a conversation with people outside of their room just by raising their voice. The person shall be aware of hearing noise activities and will be regularly distracted by them. This level is often found in offices with insufficient or poor attention to acoustic detail. People wishing far more privacy and far less distraction find this level too restrictive. Poor privacyNo privacy for staff at all People can conduct conversations with others outside of their room without having to raise their voice. The person shall be aware of hearing noise activities and will be very disturbed by them. They will be able to follow other people’s conversation fully and be aware of it. This level occurs in closed office environments and where there is no acoustic design. Directional microphonesSpecific masking technique against directional microphones Aside from generic masking techniques STI Sound ensures conversations cannot be overheard via directional microphones; meaning a room becomes fully isolated. Management offices, boardrooms and courts are good examples of this. Various American governmental bodies such as the FBI have embraced secure sound and as a result set up applicable instructions. |
